Artistic Directors Carlos García Estévez and Paige Allerton along with participating artists, visited La Ferro, FM4 and Estudio Teorema as part of their research and creation process for The Gate of Hope, part one of their Epic Borders Trilogy. At FM4 they were privileged to have heard firsthand accounts from refugees about their journeys through the sun, the nights, the mountains, the deserts… the walking, the busses, the jumping, the trains, the police checks, the gang checks, the mafia controlled areas, families, children, deportation and some happy reunions. The people that they met there we stopped for a night or two of rest and protection before continuing on roughly another 1000 kilometres to the US border.
At La Ferro, they met with community coordinators of an impoverished and marginalised neighbourhood, as well as indigenous spokesperson, Berna (Mixtec native speaker), of the local migrant indigenous community.
FM4 Paso Libre (Dignity and Justice on the road A.C.) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the defense and promotion of human rights of migrants and refugees through comprehensive humanitarian care, advocacy and research from the west from Mexico.

LA FERRO is a cultural centre in Guadalajara that generates a space for meeting, orientation, expression and training in a culture of peace through artistic activities. These actions seek to curb social problems arising from poverty and violence such as marginalization, family disintegration, gang members, drug addiction, drug trafficking, unemployment and school dropout.

Estudio Teorema is a space focused on transforming through art, culture and social innovation. They are located in the territory of the industrial zone of Guadalajara since 2016 and through various programs and activities have influenced the cultural life of the community.
