This exhibit is designed to bring you into the world of child-like imagination that expresses the love of a child for her Nookmis. It has been created alongside the performance directed by Manifesto Poetico, for the summer production at Debajehmujig Storytellers, opening July 22. It is an enhancing and evolving experience for art lovers, gallery goers and audiences who will also experience the installation and exhibit as part of the world of the show.

Through acrylic, gouache, pastels, pencils and charcoal, Courtnee Osawabine has captured the whimsy and innocence within the imagination of a child. The exhibition will grow as the show opens and continues to run, with new paintings created in every performance and added to the exhibition. At the installation, you’ll find Nookmis’ living room, empty of her presence and still filled with her favorite things. It is full in a way that makes it feel quiet but loud.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

COURTNEE OSAWABINE

This exhibit is intended to awaken your inner child. Every painting, drawing, object and sculpture has been crafted to inspire your freedom to imagine. The expo has been created in tandem with the theatre show “If I listened…”, directed by Manifesto Poetico. Through this expo I have brought elements of the show to life in different mediums. You may recognize some things or make connections in your own life. I did not limit myself to one medium or concept, but rather let the flow of the show guide me to create. Through acrylic, gouache, pastels, pencils and charcoal I have captured the imagination of the character Wawatese, and her love for her Nookmis.

I hope you enjoy the expo and reconnect with your inner childlike wonder.
